Big Oak

Big Oak

These are the pictures of that oak we cut down earlier this year. There will be lot
of firewood from the branches and we plan to cut some nice quartersawn boards
which we'll use to make some outside table and benches. Of course first we will
store the boards to dry for a year or two till they dry to 14% or so.

You can also see that I used my Stihl 070 with 75 cm (30 inches) long bar
to cut this large oak. Stihl 070 is the monster saw and if the chain is sharp
it cuts oak like hot knife troug butter believe me. I've bought this saw two
years ago for Eur.250 (USD 285) and it came with 53 cm (20,83 inches)long
bar. I think it is from 1980 and the guy who owned it used it only for cutting
firewood so it's not been used much. Then I ordered from Ebay longer bar
and chain (you can see them on the pictures) both for bit more than Eur 100
            (114 USD).
You can check the bars and chains on Ebay, company name is Sägenspezi from
Germany. They have really good quality  products for chainsaws and they are
of course cheaper then Stihl. I need to replace clutch and chain sprocket on this                                     saw which I ordered also from Sägenspezi's . I will post some pictures about
that also. My smaller chainsaw is Stihl 029 which I used to cut branches because
070 is too heavy to use for longer time.
